Diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems in vehicles, including cars, trucks, and other motorized vehicles.
Inspecting and testing vehicle systems and components to identify any faults or problems.
Performing regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
Maintaining a safe and clean workshop environment, including ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and maintenance of equipment.
Ordering and managing inventory of parts and supplies.
Maintaining detailed records of repairs, maintenance, and other services performed on each vehicle.
Communicating with customers to explain repairs needed and provide estimates of cost and time required.
Providing consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users.
Undertaking other duties as assigned (e.g., repair of hydraulic systems, painting vehicles, etc.).
Testing parts and systems to ensure that they are working properly.
Following checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined.
Performing basic care and maintenance, including changing oil, giving tune-ups, checking fluid levels, and rotating tires.
Repairing or replacing worn parts, such as brake pads and wheel bearings.
Disassembling and reassembling parts.
Using testing equipment to ensure that repairs and maintenance are effective. Utilizing computer-based diagnostic equipment and systems to find and identify mechanical errors in order for mechanics to carry out the repairs.
Providing training and guidance to less experienced mechanics.
Explaining to clients their automotive problems and the repairs done on their vehicles.
