Job description
Roles and Responsibilities
  • An Instrumentation Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of instruments used for monitoring and controlling various industrial processes. These instruments typically measure variables such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level in industries like oil and gas, manufacturing, chemical, and utilities.

  • Support the installation process of taximeters and roof lights for new vehicles received from the Fleet department.
  • Ensure taximeters are in working condition by conducting extensive testing and calibrating procedures to receive approvals from Transport Authority.
  • Carry out work instructions accurately to promptly address and repair inoperative devices.
  • Receive and handle reports from Drivers regarding malfunctioning equipment.
  • Calibrate all taximeters on a regular basis to ensure accuracy and proper functionality.
  • Coordinate with the Operations department regarding equipment upgrade requirements on vehicles and complete the upgrades within the set timelines and standards.
  • Troubleshoot and respond to queries on electronic hardware installation matters.

  • Contribute to the identification of improvements of systems, processes and practices to enhance business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
  • Prepare vehicle operations and utilization reports as per requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls.

  • Proficiency in the relevant taxi services and equipment (both hardware and software).

Experience

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience with hands-on experience with automotive electrical systems.

1. Technical Knowledge and Expertise

  • Instrumentation Systems: In-depth understanding of control systems, such as Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and various field instruments (e.g., transmitters, analyzers, pressure gauges).
  • Calibration Skills: Ability to calibrate instruments to ensure accurate readings and functioning.
  • Understanding of Process Control: Knowledge of control loops, PID control, and other process control techniques used in automation.

2. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics

  • Problem-Solving: Diagnosing faults in instrumentation and control systems by interpreting data, logs, and error messages.
  • Repairs and Maintenance: Identifying malfunctioning instruments and quickly performing repairs, which may involve replacing sensors, wiring, or reprogramming controllers.
  • Use of Diagnostic Tools: Familiarity with using handheld calibrators, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic instruments to test the functionality of systems.

3. Installation and Configuration

  • System Setup: Installing new instrumentation systems and ensuring all components are configured correctly according to the specifications.
  • Integration with Other Systems: Ensuring that instruments and control systems are integrated properly into larger automation systems and are communicating effectively.

4. Knowledge of Standards and Safety Regulations

  • Industry Standards: Understanding of relevant industry standards, such as ISO, IEC, or ANSI, for instrumentation.
  • Safety Protocols: Knowledge of safety standards, including electrical safety, hazardous location classification (e.g., ATEX, IECEx), and environmental regulations to ensure the safe operation of instrumentation.
  • Workplace Safety: Familiarity with safe working practices, particularly when dealing with high-voltage or hazardous environments.

5. Software and Computer Skills

  • Control Systems Software: Familiarity with the software used to interface with control systems, such as DCS, PLC programming tools, and SCADA systems.
  • Data Logging and Analysis: Using computer-based systems to log and analyze the performance of instruments and control loops over time.
  • Troubleshooting with Software: Using software tools to diagnose faults or perform routine system checks and calibrations.
