Lead Civil Structural Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is looking for a Lead Civil Structural Engineer to be based in Dubai, UAE with occasional business trips to Iraq, Basra.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Periodic visits to site
2. Consultation with the Owner/Client
3. Interpretation of plans and specifications
4. Checking working drawings and data
5. Processing & certification of contractor's payment estimates
6. Preparation of amendments to contractor's contract
7. Final inspection of project
8. Preparation of "as-built" drawings
9. Making expert assessments of selected sites for construction, evaluating the structural, environmental and commercial feasibility of future projects
10. Following this assessment process, being responsible for creating detailed drawings, plans and schedules and estimating the cost of the construction and engineering work required
11. Be in charge of finalizing construction plans and obtaining final approval from the clients
12. In charge of making sure that all the construction activities meet quality standards and comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
13. Regularly need to spend time keeping up-to-date on the latest trends and developments within the construction industry, reading about newly-enacted legislation and gathering information on new tools and techniques
14. Lead teams of other engineers, perhaps from other organizations or firms
15. Compile, check and approve reports
16. Review and approve project drawings
17. Use computer-aided design (CAD) packages for designing projects
18. Undertake complex and repetitive calculations
19. Schedule material and equipment purchases and delivery
20. Attend public meetings to discuss projects, especially in a senior role
21. Adopt all relevant requirements around issues such as building permits, environmental regulations, sanitary design, good manufacturing practices and safety on all work assignments
22. Ensure that a project runs smoothly and that the structure is completed on time and within budget
23. Correct any project deficiencies that affect production, quality and safety requirements before final evaluation and project reviews.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with more than 20 years site experience in basic design requirements, fabrication, estimation, installation and all site activities related to all Civil/Structural works for construction of large-scale building projects.
2. Familiar with all the Civil/Structural engineering methodologies as well as the corresponding equipment, materials, consumables, tools and manpower allocations related to Civil/Structural works for building projects. Well versed in interpreting and executing Civil/Structural related drawings.
3. With strong leadership skills.
4. Minimum BSc/BEng level degree in Civil Engineering, with extensive experience.
5. Considerable experience on construction sites - green and brown.
6. Knowledge of operations and maintenance practices is preferred.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
8. Basic understanding of project management control processes for management of change, cost and schedule estimating and monitoring.
9. Fluent in English, written and spoken.
