Job description

We are looking for an immediate hiring of an expert and committed Ship Technical Engineer at our Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone office who would be responsible for the repair, maintenance, and dry docking of vessels from 20 to 80 meter LOA Vessels such as Tugs/Barges.

In 2007 LSI opened its new premises in Sharjah Hamriyah Free Zone with a 13,545 sq. mt yard adjacent to the port Jetty which is reserved for LSI vessels and their associates. LSI currently owns 62 vessels, and 8 cranes, as well as managing several vessels for their owners, and employs around 315 full-time staff. Our services include marine chartering, marine transportation, ship management, towages, offshore support, and marine construction projects.

Job Description:

As a Ship Technical Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair and dry docking of small to medium-sized vessels. You will work closely with a team of welders, fabricators, and engineers to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all safety and quality standards of IMO/ Flag/IACS classification societies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide input to the technical manager for the development of maintenance strategy for all technical parts of all vessels and manage the implementation.
  • Manage & monitor departmental KPIs and provide reports to the technical manager.
  • Provide accurate reports to the technical manager on work done, performance, issues / delays, status of assets, and work forecasts.
  • Maintain and update all the technical data, drawings, and specifications of all vessels.
  • Responsible for timely ordering technical aspects & required materials.
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of docking and ship repair projects, ensuring efficiency and safety.
  • Supervise DD on day-to-day activities during the dry-docking process to ensure the quality of the dry-docking activities.
  • Managing budgets, guaranteeing precise cost allocation for docking and repair activities.
  • Plan and arranging manpower and materials for each task.
  • Handling statutory surveys/surveyors, maintaining vessel and equipment compliance with IACS Class standards.
  • Responsible for all vessels Class/Flag certification and responsible for timely execution of surveyor attendance.
  • Ensuring maintenance works were done in compliance with quality & safety standards and codes (IACS, SOLAS, AWS, ASME IX, ASTM, & Classification societies).
  • Fleet weather/operational damages Insurance and claims handling.
  • Ensure and monitor all welding activities according to the approved WPS in line with AWS, ASME IX, ASTM, & Classification societies.
  • Ensure company welders are qualified as per national, international, AWS, ASME IX, ASTM, & IACS Classification Society standards.
  • Conduct regular visits to the vessel/yard to ensure effective and safe operation of all vessels, according to HSE requirements.

Qualifications:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Marine Engineering / Naval Architecture is essential.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in ship repair, maintenance, or a related field, with a focus on small tugs and barges from 20 to 80 meter LOA Vessels.
  • Knowledge and experience in all aspects of ship repair in a Shipyard or a similar facility with activities for ship repairs.
  • Good project management and contract administrative skills.
  • Good knowledge and experience in handling site completion inspections, line walks, and other process inspections.
  • Good knowledge and experience in different processes involved in Ship maintenance activities and related quality requirements.
  • Proven track record in supervising teams and successfully delivering projects.
  • Assigning targets to Yard and subcon manpower.
  • Preparing and submitting progress reports to the management.
  • Prepare and submit reports of targeted and consumed manhours for a project.
  • Strong knowledge of ship repair materials, tools, and techniques.
  • Strong background in resolution of technical issues during project planning and execution phases with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office especially in Excel.
  • Competent and conversant with AutoCAD software.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Safety-conscious and detail-oriented.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in managing multiple small-scale vessels.
  • Certifications in ship repairs, welding, and related fields are a plus.
