Job description

Position Summary

The Dispatcher is responsible for optimizing and coordinating the daily distribution operations. This includes planning shipment routes, managing drivers and delivery schedules, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The Dispatcher proactively addresses delivery issues and ensures that customer expectations are met while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and route optimization.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Using a route planning tool, create optimized shipment routes, considering distance, time, traffic, and specific customer requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate orders to maximize delivery efficiency and meet customer expectations.
  • Proactively troubleshoot delivery issues, implementing timely solutions to minimize disruptions.
  • Verify delivery plans for accuracy, ensuring compliance with quality and delivery standards.
  • Monitor and track route performance, identifying areas for improvement and making necessary adjustments.
  • Generate reports on route optimization, performance metrics, and cost analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide recommendations and insights for future route planning, focusing on continuous logistics optimization.
  • Liaise with drivers, distribution teams, and dispatch teams to ensure clear communication of route plans and any changes required.
  • Analyze traffic patterns and seasonal variations to refine route strategies and avoid potential disruptions.
  • Ensure all routing complies with regulatory requirements, including road restrictions and delivery time windows.
  • Lead the distribution team, managing daily operations to ensure efficient execution of deliveries.
  • Manage delivery drivers and crew, ensuring timely dispatch and adherence to delivery schedules.
  • Monitor and drive productivity during trade, ensuring delivery targets and service levels are met.
  • Conduct driver debriefs to gather insights for continuous improvement.
  • Conduct customer visits to build good relationships with customers receiving personnel to drive customer centricity.
  • Communicate truck performance issues to the fleet team or service provider, ensuring timely maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversee the management of delivery returns, ensuring proper documentation and handling of returned goods.
  • Enforce health, safety, and compliance standards for all delivery operations, maintaining a secure working environment.
  • Track and report daily delivery metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.

Experience & Qualification

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in inventory management or logistics preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in stock control or inventory management within a warehouse setting.
  • Experience in back-office systems management.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management processes and systems.
  • Proficiency in Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and procurement procedures.
  • Familiarity with compliance and governance standards in inventory control.
