Key Responsibilities
Direct the company’s policies and objectives involving state, and local government relations. Timely resolve of business issues involving government and authorities at the state and local level within the U.S. West Coast. Where relevant, provide timely advice and forward-thinking solutions to business managers.
Track legislation and engage, as necessary.
Overall lobbying responsibility at the state and local level to protect the interests of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group.
Maintain and nurture relationships with key legislators, staff members, agency representatives, professional organizations, and port authorities to protect and positively influence APMM’s legislative, regulatory, and reputational interests on the U.S. West Coast, with special focus at the state and local levels, as coordinated with the Head of U.S. Government Relations.
Assist with the establishment of corporate strategies, policies, and plans.
Assist APMT Los Angeles senior management team with labor relations, as/if necessary.
Develop and maintain local community relations, including but not limited to residents and environmental groups.
Ensure that key internal stakeholders are consulted and kept well-informed of potential threats and opportunities.
Represent APMM in selected professional organizations and associations.
Manage state and local level political contributions, ensuring continued compliance with statutory and internal requirements.
Manage state level lobbying firms, as applicable, and as agreed with Head of U.S. Government Relations, with focus on maintaining adequate APMM flexibility, options and confidentiality – and firm control of costs.
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate should have 8-10 years of government relations and/or maritime transportation experience.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree. Political Science, economics, or law preferred.
The personal maturity to develop and maintain professional relationships with business colleagues, policy makers and authorities, based on trust and the pursuit of business results for mutual benefit.
Strong communication and public speaking skills, as well as excellent writing skills.
The sense of urgency required to reach timely results for business.
