Director Data Science

Job Description

Build and lead a team of Data Scientists to deliver advanced offline and real-time machine learning solutions and data pipelines. Develop and implement data science and AI strategies in alignment with business objectives. Partner with Product Leadership and Core Engineering teams to manage project schedules, dependencies, and critical paths.

Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and other functions to ensure alignment and successful project delivery. Drive initiatives that promote innovation and technical excellence within the data science team. Hire, retain, and develop high-performing data scientists and engineers. Coach and motivate the team to achieve high productivity and teamwork, ensuring individual potential is maximized.

Interface with internal teams to prioritize features and functionality based on business priorities and available resources.

Skills & Experience:

1. Minimum 10 years of experience in data science and/or machine learning.
2. At least 5 years of hands-on people management experience, leading high-performing teams of engineers, scientists, and/or engineering managers.
3. Strong experience in data management, including building and scaling data lake management systems and data pipelines.
4. Expertise in data curation and ethical sourcing of data, with a thorough understanding of data privacy regulations.
5. Proven track record in product management, delivering successful products and features in the AI/ML space.
6. Experience in building AI architectures and deploying scalable AI models.
7. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
8. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
9. Proficiency with agile development methodologies and best practices for software development.
10. Ability to communicate highly technical concepts to non-technical audiences effectively.
11. Experience in the marketplace industry or a strong interest in the marketplace space.
