The Director Container Operation

The Director Container Operation of Ports International Operating Company (PIOC) will provide leadership and strategic direction for all containers operation management with a focus on driving business growth, expanding the global footprint, profitability, performance, sustainability, automation, and innovation in line with PIOC Strategic Objectives. The Director Container Operation is accountable to set and implement container operation strategy and establish organization structure based on container operational module, methodology, and management systems and processes.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities:

  1. Develop container operations strategy and organizational module targeting international markets to achieve business targeted operation, productivity, cost structure, and improve efficiency.
  2. Set goals and targets for container operations, including throughput, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  3. Manage budgets and resources to ensure effective use of assets and personnel.
  4. Negotiate and close customer agreements/retention.
  5. Oversee the daily operations of internal ports, including container handling, storage, and transportation.
  6. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  7. Manage cross-departmental activities, such as terminal operations, stevedoring, and logistics.
  8. Develop and implement container management systems to track and manage container inventory, movement, and utilization.
  9. Ensure efficient container handling and movement, including receiving, storing, and dispatching containers.
  10. Coordinate with terminal operators, shipping lines, and customs brokers to facilitate container movement.
  11. Lead the provision of excellent customer services to international customers, including terminal operators, shipping lines, and logistics providers.
  12. Ensure prompt response to customer queries and concerns associated with container operations.
  13. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers to improve service quality and loyalty.
  14. Ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, including fire safety, emergency response planning, and security protocols.
  15. Lead and promote regular safety inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement within container operations.
  16. Monitor the closeout of corrective actions to address identified safety and security concerns or areas for improvement.
  17. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including customs regulations, maritime laws, environmental regulations, and operational legislations.
  18. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  19. Develop and submit reports to the CEO of PIOC and management on container operations performance, including trends, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  20. Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction.
  21. Develop and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  22. Collaborate with other departments to leverage best practices and share knowledge.
  23. Perform other duties as required by management or as necessary to ensure the smooth operation of international container operations.

People Management Responsibilities:

Recruit operational and equipment maintenance team and procure service provider sub-contracts as appropriate, based on detailed development of JDs for key roles, service level agreements. Lead a team of container operations, including supervisors, handlers, and administrative personnel and contracted stevedoring. Ensure the effectiveness of training programs to ensure staff are equipped to perform their duties effectively and efficiently. Conduct performance evaluations and coaching and feedback. Implement and manage appraisal/management processes. Establish disciplinary/performance management processes within Operations division.

Educational and Technical Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Port Operation, Business Administration, Ports/Maritime Management, or a related field. Minimum 12 years of experience in Container Operation. Demonstrated record of successfully overseeing international experience and substantial operational and cultural change including business start-up. Strong leadership and decision-making abilities with a track record of successfully managing and developing high-performing teams in multicultural environments, fostering inclusivity and leveraging diverse perspectives. Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex international market data, cultural factors, and geopolitical trends, translating them into actionable insights and recommendations. In-depth knowledge of the international ports and logistics industry, global trade dynamics, market trends, cultural intelligence, and regulatory frameworks across various international markets.
