Diesel Engine Mechanic
Job description
Job Responsibilities:
- Identify issues with diesel engines, including poor performance, excessive fuel consumption, unusual noises, or mechanical failure.
- Use diagnostic tools like scan tools, pressure gauges, and computer-based diagnostic systems to pinpoint problems.
- Perform regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fuel system servicing.
- Repair or replace damaged parts like pistons, turbochargers, fuel injectors, timing belts, and cylinder heads.
- Rebuild and recondition diesel engines by disassembling and reassembling engine components.
- Perform tasks such as honing cylinders, replacing bearings, and repairing or replacing worn parts to restore engine performance.
- Work on fuel injection systems, including pumps, injectors, and lines.
- Inspect and repair exhaust systems, including turbochargers and after-treatment systems (e.g., EGR, SCR systems) to meet emission standards.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems related to the engine, including the starter, alternator, and battery.
- Diagnose and repair issues with the ignition system, including glow plugs, sensors, and wiring.
- Adjust engine settings for optimal performance and fuel efficiency.
- Tune up engines to meet specific operational needs, such as higher power output or better fuel economy.
- Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid injuries.
- Ensure that repairs and maintenance comply with environmental regulations and emission standards.
