Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Receives, disassembles, cleans contaminated equipment and inspects and tests all equipment as per established protocols.
  2. Assumes responsibility for providing effective and efficient decontamination and distribution of re-usable medical devices for use in direct patient care.
  3. Tests and operates washer disinfector machines, driers, sterilizers or any other decontamination equipment within the department as per established protocols.
  4. Operates and tests all decontamination machinery within the department, and informs supervisors or assistant managers if results are contrary to those required.
  5. Undertakes quality checks for cleanliness and completeness of equipment, before distribution to wards, departments, and theatres.
  6. Undertakes daily validation tests of decontamination equipment, and ensures appropriate documentation of activities and results.
  7. Issues sterile supplied goods and maintains holding stock levels within the wards and departments.
  8. Carries out functionality tests on all re-usable medical devices and records and processes test results to demonstrate compliance, enable audit and facilitate analysis.
  9. Receives and documents goods and equipment, checks delivery notes against goods delivered for accuracy and records non-conformance.
  10. Communicates with colleagues/customers at all levels, including senior staff.
  11. Assists in restocking of supplies and records all information required.
  12. Carries out assigned clerical tasks as requested by a supervisor.
  13. Works in accordance with all safe working policies/procedures of the facility.
  14. Takes reasonable care of themselves and others who may be affected by their actions.
  15. Takes all actions to avoid, eliminate or minimize hazards.
  16. Seeks information to make sure they are able to competently and safely perform any work they undertake and are aware of the risks and hazards associated with their work.
  17. Reports all incidents/ injuries.
  18. Attends all mandatory training as scheduled by their facility.
  19. Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  20. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  21. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  22. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
  23. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

OSHMS Responsibilities:

  1. Employees shall comply with all OSHMS policies, standards, and procedures affecting their work and avoid misusing anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or protection of the environment.
  2. Help in developing and establishing safety programs.
  3. Assist in incident investigations.
  4. Report hazards and incidents.
  5. Provide OSH feedback to in charge/HOD.
