Full job description

We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel with specialized expertise in contract negotiation, intellectual property management, and regulatory compliance within the mobile phone and consumer electronics sectors.

Responsibilities

1. Contract Negotiation and Management:
   • Lead the negotiation, drafting, and execution of distribution agreements, particularly within the mobile phone and consumer electronics sectors.
   • Oversee the life cycle of distribution contracts, including renewals, amendments, and terminations, ensuring alignment with business goals.
   • Ensure all contracts comply with relevant local and international laws and company policies.
   • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including legal, sales, procurement, and finance, to ensure contract terms meet company standards and strategic objectives.
2. Intellectual Property (IP) Management:
   • Oversee the protection and enforcement of the company's intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights, across multiple markets.
   • Manage IP-related contracts such as licensing agreements, technology transfers, and joint ventures to support strategic business initiatives.
   • Advise on intellectual property risks and compliance considerations during contract negotiations and business transactions, especially in international markets.
3. Regulatory Compliance:
   • Stay updated on legislative changes and advise on necessary amendments to contracts, distribution agreements, and IP strategies.
   • Ensure compliance with international trade regulations that may impact the company’s distribution agreements, particularly within the UAE and other key markets.
   • Ensure contracts and business practices adhere to international privacy laws and consumer protection standards.
4. International Market Expertise:
   • Apply a deep understanding of international markets, particularly UAE, to guide contract negotiations and IP management strategies.
   • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in international markets, including manufacturers, distributors, and regulatory bodies.
   • Lead strategic initiatives in contract negotiation and IP enforcement in alignment with global business objectives.
5. Risk Management and Dispute Resolution:
   • Lead the resolution of contract and intellectual property disputes, managing negotiations and settlement processes.
   • Coordinate with external counsel and oversee litigation involving the company’s distribution and IP agreements, ensuring efficient and cost-effective management of the legal budget.
   • Develop risk management strategies to mitigate potential legal exposure in cross-border agreements and transactions.
6. Collaboration and Communication:
   • Work closely with Product Development, Marketing, and Sales teams to ensure alignment on contract and IP strategies with overall business goals.
   • Effectively communicate with external partners, including manufacturers, distributors, and legal teams, to facilitate smooth contract execution and IP management.
   • Support corporate governance, business ethics initiatives, and compliance programs to foster a culture of integrity and transparency.
   • Proactively inform the organization of legislative changes that may impact company operations or compliance requirements globally.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Master’s degree or JD from an accredited law school is preferred.
• Professional Experience: Minimum of 4-7 years of experience in contract negotiations, intellectual property management, and regulatory compliance, preferably within the mobile phone or consumer electronics industry.
• Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of intellectual property rights, consumer law, international trade regulations, and privacy laws.
• Track Record: Proven experience negotiating and managing distribution agreements and contracts involving intellectual property, particularly within the UAE and international markets.
• Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-functional environment.
• Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities and capacity to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages is advantageous.
• Industry Experience: Prior experience with leading mobile phone and consumer electronics manufacturers or distribution companies is a significant advantage.
