JOB DESCRIPTION
A research laboratory based in the UAE is at the forefront of advancing computational and photonic technologies to address intricate physics and engineering challenges. The lab specializes in the characterization, optimization, and application of photonic processors. Additionally, it focuses on developing predictive models to tackle computational issues using photonic intelligence and coupled oscillator networks. The lab is also pioneering solutions for combinatorial optimization and advanced artificial intelligence applications.
The Computational Scientist will advance the frontiers of science and technology by joining our team to design innovative models and theories for physical systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement computational algorithms for modelling physical systems, with an emphasis on photonic processors and their applications.
- Advance predictive modelling to address complex issues such as optimization and decision-making using coupled oscillator networks.
- Maintain and enhance high-performance simulation platforms for photonics, neuronal dynamics, and data visualization.
- Participate in all stages of product development, from initial problem analysis to the final deployment of computational solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate computational methods into broader research and development objectives.
DESIRED CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Educational Background: Master's degree (Assistant Scientist), or Ph.D. in Physics (Senior Scientist), Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields.
- Programming Expertise: Strong knowledge of C++, Python, and MATLAB, and experience in writing production-quality C++ code.
- Research and Development Experience: Proficiency in computational physics, numerical solvers, and electrodynamic simulations.
- AI and Machine Learning: Familiarity with GPU-centric computation, matrix multiplication, and AI algorithm optimization.
- Software Development: Experience in developing user interfaces, cross-platform commercial software, and scientific codes for physical systems.
- Problem Solving: A strong grasp of algorithms, numeric, and high-performance computational techniques.
- Team Player: Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, communicate effectively, and manage multiple tasks in a demanding environment.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in German or other European languages is a plus.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient in HPC systems, Linux, and Slurm.
- Knowledgeable in MOOSE.
- Skilled in ML and AI for computational research.
- Experienced in modelling RF/microwave-driven plasma discharges using fluid/continuum descriptions.
- Proven ability to supervise technical staff, mentor researchers, and write grant proposals.
- Strong academic background with numerous publications, including first-author papers.
