Job title: Computational Engineer - MEP M / F

Contract type: Permanent contract

Egis is looking for a Computational Engineer for the MEP team to join its office located in Dubai and work closely to develop Computational Design Strategies. The successful candidate will develop MEP consultancy expertise on a range of building projects across the Middle East, working in collaboration with computational designers, scripters, sustainability engineers and wider disciplines. The candidate shall have a passion for MEP design, building physics (IES), innovative and low / zero carbon solutions, in addition to understanding the ever-evolving technologies and design innovations.

Job Description:

Specific areas of key responsibility include the following:

1. Leading computational design and parametric tools to drive innovation and efficiency within the MEP team.
2. Sound knowledge of Rhino, Grasshopper and Ladybug from an MEP perspective targeting front end delivery.
3. Introducing software programmers, scripters, and coders to the building services design process and collaborating with them to achieve efficient results.
4. Leading competitions, assisting in the preparation of presentations for technical client briefings and improving presentation of reports, providing a brand standard with infographics.
5. Early design modelling and analysis looking at parametric optimizations for MEP with key focus on sustainability and design innovation.
6. Supporting BIM efficiency through Revit and plug-ins such as Rhino inside Revit, MagiCAD, etc.
7. Taking lead and supporting discipline specific MEP engineers on projects depending on the specialty of the candidate.
8. Liaising externally with software providers / developers on product and process efficiency improvement.

Additional discipline specific responsibilities (optional):

1. Compilation and issue of building physics reports for CFD modelling, energy modelling, PUE calculations and feasibility studies for MEP.
2. Applying detailed knowledge of HVAC components, controls and how the systems are operated.
3. Daylighting simulations using Rhino / Grasshopper / Radiance.
4. CFD simulation experience (development opportunity, if appropriate).
5. Energy / thermal modelling and building simulation utilising IES, including Apache HVAC systems modelling.
6. Providing training and guidance to other MEP engineers on various parametric software.

Desired Profile:

1. Minimum of 2 years experience in the building services industry.
2. Proven track record with different types of sectors, including high rise, commercial, residential, retail, industrial, refurbishment, etc.
3. Credible experience in working with parametric design tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper and Revit and use of early design building simulation software tools specifically Ladybug tools.
4. An interest in coding or programming.
5. A comprehensive knowledge of current building regulations and local planning codes.
6. Experienced at:

• Preparing project reports.
• Early design analysis, parametrics and optimization.
• Leading and supporting discipline engineers on projects.
