Jumeirah Zabeel Saray is a luxurious beachside resort located on the West Crescent of the iconic Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. The interior of the resort is inspired by the ancient palaces of the Ottoman Era and features hand-painted finishings, artworks and stunning murals influenced by the Golden Age of the Ottoman Empire. The resort features 405 rooms and suites, 38 Royal Villas, and the award-winning Talise Ottoman Spa, one of the largest and most luxurious spas in the Middle East. Amenities include Sinbad’s Kids Club with a splash park, the entertainment venue Zabeel Theatre, motorised and non-motorised water sports by the pristine private beach, and a curated selection of eleven distinct restaurants & lounges, offering a myriad of culinary experiences.

About the Job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commis 1 to join the Culinary team at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Gather, measure, mix, and prepare meal ingredients, sauces, and seasonings, ensuring proper cutting, seasoning, and marination techniques are followed, while preparing dishes like salads and sauces with attention to detail and exquisite presentation, according to established recipes and plating guidelines.
  • Operate kitchen equipment effectively, including braising pans, ovens, grills, and fryers, while ensuring food is properly stored in refrigerators and freezers; document inventory and notify supervisors of low stock levels, managing stock rotation to maintain ingredient freshness.
  • Set up stations with par stocks of menu items and carry out food preparation tasks as designated by the Demi Chef or Chef De Partie, ensuring that portion sizes, quantities, and quality meet recipe specifications.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen, ensuring all areas are cleaned following established protocols, and adhere to health, safety, and hygiene standards, including properly discarding expired or spoiled food.
  • Foster positive working relationships with team members, attend daily meetings with the culinary team, and report any equipment failures to the Demi Chef or Chef De Partie, ensuring necessary repairs are carried out.
  • Follow departmental policies, standard operating procedures, and safety guidelines, ensuring high-quality service delivery in line with Jumeirah’s standards of excellence and HACCP compliance.

About You

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications, experience, and skills:

  • 2+ years of experience in a range of kitchen areas; ideally within the luxury hospitality industry.
  • College Degree in Culinary Arts or similar from an accredited Culinary School
  • Expert in food quality and presentation skills
  • Adaptability and appreciation of cultural diversity
