Clinical Resource Nurse-Nursing Informatics

Job Purpose

This role is responsible for the development and maintenance of a competency-based continuing education program that supports the nurses in all specialty areas towards improvement in clinical practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assesses and identifies educational needs and develops educational programs accordingly.
2. Performs consistent, systematic evaluation of clinically based programs to determine if they meet staff needs and are responsive to department/organizational direction.
3. Formulates measurable performance criteria to assess nurses’ levels of competence.
4. Collaborates with nursing staff and other disciplines in the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs.
5. Demonstrates skill in adult education, group dynamics, curriculum development, communication, and teaching strategies.
6. Assists nursing staff to integrate new knowledge and skill into their practice and ensures that competency is maintained.
7. Provides specialty-specific orientation to relevant staff and participates in the organization’s orientation programs as required.
8. Provides bedside clinical consultations in the area of expertise/specialization.
9. Leads the implementation of evidence-based practice and actively participates in research to promote clinical knowledge and a research-based clinical practice environment.
10. Engages in health promotion activities in the organization and community.
11. Manages information technology to access, transmit, and produce information as necessary.
12. Utilizes information gained from program evaluation to determine future program directions.

3. Performing any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic of the role.
4. Participates in interdisciplinary teams and Performance Improvement Projects for evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.
5. Maintains contemporary knowledge of evidence-based practice relevant to the specialty.
6. Acts as a professional role model with regard to self-development and self-accountability by projecting the image of a self-directed learner and setting high personal work standards.
7. Monitor clinical care to ensure clinical standards are met. Identify variances and initiate corrective measures, and this information shall be used for educational and bedside teaching.
8. Monitor staff performance, and provide regular constructive feedback, coaching guidance, and support to the team on the shift. Provide staff performance feedback to the manager.

Accountabilities

1. Maintains accurate records of educational activity and reports as required.
2. Supervises the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines, evaluation of indicators, and reporting of outcomes and trends.
3. Initiates action and reports to the appropriate manager when staff behavior and/or performance do not meet professional standards.
4. Demonstrates evidence of mandatory and unit-specific competencies completion, accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units based on DOH and organization requirements, and ongoing professional development in leadership and management.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Required:

1. NLT 6 years clinical experience post qualification in an appropriate & relevant healthcare settings and Positive written references which must identify specific responsibilities as a clinical resource nurse.

Desired:

1. 1 year as an educator.

Educational Qualification:
Required:

1. Bachelor degree in nursing OR
2. Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) AND Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
3. AND valid/current national license.
4. AND BLS.

Desired:

1. MSc in nursing education.
