The Chief Accountant ensures the effective management of financial operations across multiple sectors, including aquaculture, farms and agriculture, shared services, and healthcare. This role focuses on financial reporting, compliance, team supervision, and supporting the organization’s strategic objectives through accurate and timely financial information.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations & Team Supervision
Supervise and provide overall control over the accounting department, including junior employees and accounting assistants in the assigned sector.
Monitor daily financial operations and accounting transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings, ensuring adherence to deadlines.
Guide accountants on reconciliations, journal entries, and other month-end processes.
Provide support and guidance in the implementation of new ERP systems and other required tools.
Tax Compliance:
Ensure the accurate calculation, timely filing, and payment of Corporate Income Tax (CIT) in compliance with recent regulatory updates.
Manage VAT reporting and ensure compliance with the applicable tax laws and regulations, ensuring proper documentation and timely filings.
Coordinate with external service providers for preparing periodic tax declarations and fulfilling other tax requirements.
Stay informed on changes in tax legislation and ensure the company’s operations are adjusted accordingly to maintain compliance with CIT and VAT laws.
Assist in the preparation of tax audits and liaise with the tax authorities to resolve issues or queries related to tax compliance.
Prepare tax-related reports and schedules as required for internal and external purposes.
Financial Reporting
Prepare the monthly financial report package, including: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Cash Flows, Variance Reports (Actual vs. Budgeted Figures), Statement of Comprehensive Income
Coordinate with subsidiaries’ accounting departments to reconcile intercompany transactions and prepare consolidated financial statements.
Work closely with the Budget & Reporting Officer to generate financial position reports, monthly comparisons, and variance analyses.
Expense & Invoice Management
Monitor and manage invoices and daily transactions across all outlets.
Verify discounts and complimentary checks issued by operations teams.
Ensure all operational transactions are accurately consolidated on a daily basis.
Collaborate with the Purchase Officer to review purchase requirements and documentation.
Assist in auditing activities by providing necessary information and documentation to internal and external auditors.
Liaise with auditors during audit processes to ensure timely and accurate completion.
Budgeting & Internal Controls
Assist the Group Finance Manager in implementing internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Support the Budget & Reporting Officer in preparing the annual budget, uploading it into the ERP system, and monitoring expense management activities.
Evaluate current accounting systems and recommend performance improvements to the IT team.
Review and recommend changes to existing accounting procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Disbursements & Documentation
Receive and record requests for disbursements, authorizing them in line with policies and the authority matrix.
Maintain accurate and secure records of financial transactions, ensuring information is easily accessible.
Other Responsibilities
Respond promptly to accounting inquiries from management.
Assist the Group Finance Manager in ensuring that the organization complies with regulatory requirements and financial best practices.
Perform additional tasks and duties as deemed necessary by management.
Consolidate financial data across all sectors and ensure accurate reconciliation of intercompany transactions.
Supervise shared services-related cost centers, such as IT, HR, and administrative expenses, ensuring proper cost allocation.
Prepare consolidated budgets and support variance analysis for shared services across the organization.
Ensure consistent application of accounting policies and procedures across all sectors.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional certification
Minimum of 5–7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or senior role.
Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, CMA, or ACCA
Strong experience in financial reporting, consolidations, and variance analysis.
