Job description

The purpose of this role is to carry out a full range of cargo handling activities as a member of a cargo team in order to affect the safe and timely turnaround of allocated customer airline flights.

Key Responsibilities

  1. To collect, transport and manually load all cargo shipment and allocated freight onto a range of different types of customer aircraft in order to affect the timely turnaround of allocated flights in line with agreed procedures and health and safety regulations.
  2. Offloading Cargo at the acceptance area.
  3. Delivering Cargo to the aircraft stands.
  4. Delivering cargo to customers.
  5. Truck loading.
  6. Cargo build ups and breakdowns.
  7. To operate truck dock, lower able stations, checking of PDY's and BTR's if they are serviceable or not.
  8. To carry out daily operator checks and operate all vehicles and ramp equipment used during turnaround, according to current standards and procedures, so as to minimize risk of injury to self and others and damage to customer aircraft.
  9. To carry out a range of other cargo duties, as delegated by the Team Leader, during the offload and loading in accordance with agreed procedures and customer service level agreements, to ensure the safe and timely turnaround of aircraft.
  10. To demonstrate a high standard of behavior, appearance and timekeeping in compliance with Company codes and standards of conduct, so as to demonstrate professionalism with an inherent respect of colleagues, customer airlines and passengers.
  11. To accurately complete the necessary reporting forms day to day.
  12. Use of a baggage tug flat bed lorry and forklift trucks after relevant training.
  13. Familiarization of runway and taxiway designators.
  14. Delivery of freight to the aircraft side.
  15. Delivery of cargo to the Transfer Unit Drop-off point.
  16. Delivery and collection of Freight to/from the cargo sheds as required.
  17. Delivery and collection of empty containers to/from the appropriate storage area.
  18. Reporting of defective equipment.
  19. Ensuring equipment is kept clean and tidy and is stored in the correct area and manner.
  20. Ensuring any F.O.D. is dealt with appropriately.
  21. Understanding and acting upon all prevailing Airport Notices and instructions Company instructions.
  22. Ensuring that all Health and Safety requirements are adhered to and the reporting of those that are not.
  23. Ensuring Airport Security requirements are adhered to.
  24. Representing The Company in a professional manner.
  25. To work in each area of the business as required by the workloads.

Qualifications

  • Familiar with SAA & SAS airside road safety policies.
  • Familiar with SAS warehouse safety policies.
  • SAA internal driving permit to operate Fork Lifts and Tractors.
  • Attended TRC and forklift training.

Experience

  • Experience in driving TRC and Forklift.
  • Minimum 1 year experience of cargo operations.
  • Should be literate.
  • Working to tight deadlines.
  • Time Management.
