Business Development Manager - RIC-2D Research Center

The Business Development Manager is responsible for creating a network of value-added partners in different sectors within the area of expertise, promoting programs, and leading development in income generation through academic enterprise, research, and knowledge exchange. This role involves collaboration with academic and technical staff, University business partners, and other professional service staff.

The Business Development Manager will be critical to the achievement of the Research Center's business objectives.

Strategic Responsibilities

  1. Contribute to the development of the Department's strategy and annual business plans.
  2. Contribute to the development of the Department's policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with the overall business objectives of the University.
  3. Contribute to the development and management of the Department’s budgets and report on divergences promptly.

Operational Responsibilities

  1. Identify, develop, and implement new business opportunities, including knowledge transfer and exchange partnerships, commissioned research projects, and commercialization of resources.
  2. Conduct market research and develop strategies based on that research to identify strategic partners.
  3. Implement plans targeting partnerships for growth and maintaining sustainable relationships.
  4. Negotiate contract terms with clients and communicate with stakeholders.
  5. Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Sales, Partnerships, Product Support, Client Success, Operations, and Development teams).
  6. Establish a close working relationship with Customer Success and Sales teams.
  7. Critically review existing partnerships for effectiveness and recommend improvements.
  8. Draft initial partnership agreements for stakeholders and legal counsel review.
  9. Meet with entities that have approached the university for possible partnerships.
  10. Maintain the partnership agreement terms and university commitments database.
  11. Ensure adherence to the University's information security policies and report breaches accordingly.
  12. Coordinate with other departments to facilitate task accomplishment.
  13. Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  1. Provide coaching, guidance, and mentoring to enhance the internal capabilities of the team.
  2. Recommend training courses based on needs and evaluate their effectiveness.
  3. Carry out performance appraisals for subordinates and recommend actions as needed.
  4. Conduct periodic meetings with subordinates to ensure clarity on priorities and smooth workflow.
  5. Follow up on employees' administrative affairs such as vacations and leaves.
