Our client is an established GCC and UK mid-market corporate finance advisory firm with a strong track record of both cross border and local M&A advisory work, and a very solid reputation in the market.

This close-knit team has enjoyed a good deal of success and an increased presence and reputation in both the GCC and UK markets in recent years. The team and the firm's capabilities have grown well and, as a result, the Partners and non-executive leadership of the business are keen to build on this progress by taking the firm to new levels of operational and strategic sophistication.

A key element of this strategy is to broaden the reach of the business by developing new markets, growing the network of clients and referring intermediaries who are likely to turn to our client first when their needs for M&A advisory services arise.

The Role

The firm are seeking an Associate Director, Clients and Markets to join the growing team in Dubai for whom the primary goal will be to bring new opportunities to the partners and directors across all offices in order to secure new mandates.

This will be achieved both by building strong personal business development networks as well as managing and enhancing all operational aspects of marketing, communication and events. The individual will play an active, and proactive role in the firm, developing new ideas and strategies, executing plans to a high standard and presenting a persistent and highly professional face to external stakeholders that will further strengthen the reputation of the business.

Responsibilities:

  1. Business Development Strategy: The individual will bring market insights and intelligence to the table and work with partners and directors on strategies and initiatives to grow the firm's book of business. This could include sourcing clients from new geographies, specific targeting of sectors, developing capabilities that respond to a regulatory or geopolitical change and alike.
  2. Coverage / Origination: A core focus of the role will be to build a productive network that will generate new mandates, and to engage directly with that network to originate new deals, bringing them to a point where a partner will take over. This will include financial sponsors, corporate clients and a partner/referral network that may include, for example, lawyers, restructuring/strategy firms and alike with a goal that they would turn to / refer to our client first for any corporate finance needs. This will also include the direct engagement of key targets for a particular strategic initiative e.g. geographical and/or sector strategy where key stakeholders will be mapped and systematically engaged as part of a cohesive campaign of marketing, communications and sales.
  3. Marketing & Administration: This individual will be responsible for managing and coordinating all marketing activities of the firm, from managing and planning budgets, managing relationships with agencies, overseeing tech infrastructure and ensuring the enhancement of all marketing channels from web to brand management.
  4. Campaigns and Messaging: This individual will be responsible for working with partners to develop specific campaigns, e.g. targeting companies in a particular sector and geography who may have an interest in another geography. This will involve amending existing content (such as track record, M&A surveys etc) as well as creating more specific market orientated content.
  5. Event Management: The business already have a base of successful and well attended quarterly and annual events, and this individual will take over the management of these, as well as developing ad hoc events, such as in new geographical markets.

Requirements:

This is a broad, varied and exciting opportunity operating in an ambitious firm with a professional, but positive, mature and sociable culture. This individual will often make the first impression with key external stakeholders, so their persona and mindset should echo the values and capabilities of the firm.

The nature of the role is one that manages a broad range of functional areas, and will frequently support in a varied range of ad hoc initiatives. As such the key selection criteria will simply be that of requiring an excellent all-round professional, specifically one with a strong strategic mindset, a proactive nature, broad commercial/market knowledge and good operational skills.

We invite applications from those with all of the following:

  • Will have worked in one of the following backgrounds:
  1. Investment banking / corporate finance advisory: This could be in a coverage or originations role but could also be in a lead advisory role where the individual thrived in origination.
  2. Professional services business development: Individuals from strategy, financial or restructuring consultancies (not tech or process), PE services and financial PR.
  3. Corporate Banking: Specifically, those responsible for leveraged finance, structured credit or alike, where their main contact base are financial sponsors or corporate excom.

Will have at least 8 years of experience in the above sectors, operating at a level where they are leading conversations with clients such as AD or VP and above.

  • Credible marketing and communications capabilities; ideally marketing or communications would have been a core part of your role within a smaller or less siloed business. We will be seeking a specific focus on business content creation and developing new marketing concepts, ideas and campaigns.
  • Demonstrably strong appreciation of finance and economics, able to join the dots; i.e. x economic event will have y impact on z geography or sector.
  • An appreciation of the business environment in the Middle East would be preferred, but not essential.
