Assistant Surveyor

JOB TITLE: Surveyor I

Works as a part of a team of surveyors in the survey of the earth's surface to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, lines, areas, and contours for construction.

Primary Duties

1. Study the construction plan and the project plan and identify areas to be surveyed.
2. Take accountability for the area assigned by the lead.
3. Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
4. Compute geodetic measurements and interpret survey data in order to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
5. Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys in order to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed.
6. Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
7. Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
8. Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
9. Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy.
10. Coordinate findings with the work of engineering and architectural personnel, clients, and others concerned with projects.
11. Develop criteria for survey methods and procedures.
12. Develop criteria for the design and modification of survey instruments.
13. Coordinate with the Quality Inspectors for certification requirements.
14. Carry out other duties as directed by the supervisor.
15. Ensure compliance with Company Code of Conduct, local laws and regulations.

Desired candidate profile

1. Field Surveys and Data Collection:

   1. Assist in conducting surveys to determine land boundaries, property lines, and the physical features of the environment (e.g., elevations, distances).
   2. Set up and operate surveying instruments such as total stations, levels, theodolites, and GPS equipment to measure land features.
   3. Collect data in the field, which may include measuring distances, angles, elevations, and coordinates to be used in creating maps, charts, or models.

2. Boundary and Land Surveys:

   1. Help identify property boundaries and assist in preparing boundary surveys for legal and real estate purposes.
   2. Work with survey crews to establish and verify boundary lines for landowners, developers, or government projects.

3. Construction Surveys:

   1. Assist in providing surveying services for construction projects, such as marking out building foundations, roadways, or utility installations.
   2. Work closely with engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure that construction work adheres to planned measurements and specifications.

4. Preparing Survey Documents and Reports:

   1. Assist in preparing basic survey documents, such as site plans, survey drawings, and topographic maps.
   2. Help with drafting or compiling technical reports based on the collected survey data.

5. Site Inspections and Measurements:

   1. Assist in on-site inspections, documenting existing conditions, and recording measurements.
   2. Ensure that measurements and data are accurate and properly recorded for further analysis and project planning.
