Overview

The Assistant Manager – Planning will be responsible for demand forecasting, pricing strategy, inventory management, and sales planning to optimize revenue, enhance customer experience, and drive business growth. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, cross-functional collaboration, and a deep understanding of customer behavior to execute high-impact demand and sales strategies.

Job Duties & Responsibility

  1. Demand Planning & Forecasting
    • Analyze historical sales trends, market insights, and customer behavior to develop accurate demand forecasts.
    • Work closely with Category Managers, Merchandising, and Marketing teams to align forecasts with product launches, promotions, and seasonal trends.
  2. Pricing & Promotions Strategy
    • Develop and implement an effective pricing strategy, balancing competitive positioning and profitability.
    • Own and execute promotions and discounting strategies to maximize conversions and revenue, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  3. Merchandising / Marketing
    • Develop and execute plans to showcase the right products.
    • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
    • Own the customer experience in the category - make navigation and discovery easier.
    • Identify the parameters customers use to make decisions and ensure catalog richness.
    • Work with marketing to identify the best RoI initiatives to build awareness and encourage trial across channels – SEM, SEO, TV Commercials, etc.
    • Understand SEM, SEO and Email marketing – identify the right keywords, reduce SEM costs while increasing conversions of website visits to orders.
    • Create promotions to drive revenue and margins.
    • Own both creation and execution of promotions calendar including special occasions (Diwali, Valentine’s day, etc.).
  4. Sales & Category Growth
    • Optimize product merchandising, cross-selling, and upselling strategies to improve customer engagement and conversion rates.
    • Ensure a seamless online shopping experience by enhancing product discoverability and optimizing catalog navigation.
    • Drive content creation, catalog improvement, and product presentation to boost conversions and user experience.
  5. Data Analytics Reporting
    • Track and analyze key performance metrics such as forecast accuracy, stock turnover, and revenue trends.
    • Utilize Excel, Power BI, and data visualization tools to generate business insights and inform decision-making.
    • Provide monthly performance reports to leadership teams with actionable recommendations.
  6. Customer Understanding
    • Be the voice of the customer internally.
    • Understand needs - even those that the customers themselves may not realize.
    • Stay on top of changing trends and strategic priorities through in-depth data analysis to predict customer behavior.
    • Develop the right pricing policy - identify opportunities for giving customers value through intelligent and limited discounting.
    • Use discounting to drive portfolio mix and achieve strategic goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 3-5 years of experience in demand planning, inventory management, or category management (preferably in e-commerce or retail).
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data modeling) and planning tools (SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP).
  • Experience in pricing, promotions management, and digital marketing strategies (SEO, SEM, performance marketing).
  • Proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or other analytics tools for data interpretation and visualization.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with a strong bias for action.
