Anesthesia Technician

Job Description

1. Assist the anesthesia care provider with acquiring, preparing and use of equipment, supplies, and medications during the administration of anesthesia.
2. Assist with special procedures and provide support in anesthesia for routine, emergency and complex surgical cases.
3. Functions under supervision of the licensed anesthesia care provider designated by Center.
4. Provides anesthesia technician services to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed anesthesia care provider designated by Center, in accordance with DOH regulations.
5. Cleans, sterilizes, disinfects, orders/stocks and maintains routine anesthesia equipment and supplies.
6. Maintains anesthesia medications, supplies and equipment according to needs and schedules.
7. Cleans, organizes and maintains anesthesia workroom, supplies and equipment.
8. Prepares and maintains patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra and post anesthesia and with consideration and knowledge of age-specific issues related to meeting the needs of the various patient groups.
9. Performs basic troubleshooting for monitors and equipment and reports defective equipment and equipment malfunctions appropriately/immediately.
10. Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
11. Documents and maintains preventative maintenance and quality records.
12. Assists with transport of patients as necessary.
13. Ability to travel between facilities or other treatment locations as necessary.
14. Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Center, and other local, state, and federal guidelines.
15. Promotes effective working relationships with anesthesia department staff and works collaboratively with RN circulators, Surgical Technicians, Service Technicians and Equipment Technicians.
16. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds/meetings and in-services as needed. Helps anesthesiologist in conducting pre-anesthesia evaluations.
17. Adhere to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
18. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
19. Report to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
20. Wear identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
21. Actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
22. Communicate the mission, vision and quality policy of the CENTER, as well as the focus statement of the department.
23. Employees shall comply with all OSHMS policies, standards, and procedures affecting their work and avoid misusing anything provided in the interests of health, safety, or protection of the environment.
24. Help in developing and establishing safety programs.
25. Follow established OSH procedures and not take any shortcut which affects OSH in CENTER.
26. Assist in incident investigations.
27. Report hazards and incidents.
28. Provide OSH feedback to In charge/HOD.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum 4 years of experience is required
• Leadership and teamwork abilities
• Empathy to talk to patients
• Ability to work with a team.
