Job description

THE ROLE
Our Inclusion and Learning Support department has transformed student outcomes and succeeded in inspiring a love of learning at GEMS World Academy. This has been achieved through the dedication of staff, their exceptional subject knowledge, and the department's forward-thinking approach to data and the curriculum. The Inclusion and Learning Support department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students. We are now looking for an innovative Alternative Pathway Teacher to join this successful team from August 2025.

Core Responsibilities

  1. Liaise with SLT on Alternative Pathway curriculum development and timetabling.
  2. Collaborate with the Director of Whole School Inclusion on any future developments for the Alternative Pathway at GWA.
  3. Liaise with specialist subject teachers on modification of the curriculum for mainstream lessons.
  4. Update and oversee IASEND assessment tracker for Alternative Pathway.
  5. Liaise with SLT and specialist subject teachers on Alternative Pathway reporting systems.
  6. Collaborate with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and Learning Support case managers on the design and management of ASDAN's and Alternative Pathway resources.
  7. Internally moderate ASDAN student files for certification.
  8. Lead professional development training sessions on ASDAN for 1:1 Learning Support Assistants.
  9. Lead on the delivery of ASDAN tasks and assignments.
  10. Coordinate and work closely with the Dubai ASDAN coordinator and the International Development coordinator, to ensure effective integration, review and moderation of ASDAN.
  11. Keep up to date with national and international developments in ASDAN curriculum.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in effective teaching and helping students succeed. While experience in teaching the IB Middle Years and Diploma programmes is preferred, outstanding teachers from any curriculum background are encouraged to apply. Alignment with the IB philosophy and commitment to the Learner Profile values are crucial. A genuine passion for working in a non-selective and culturally diverse community is also a key requirement. Additionally, the candidate should possess:

  1. A Bachelor of Education degree, or an initial degree plus a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE or equivalent specialism in Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Inclusion or relevant field.
  2. A minimum of 3 years varied and demonstrable experience working with SEN students or within Inclusion ideally within a similar role, ideally within an IB curriculum school, however, this is not mandatory.
  3. Full-time professionally certified Alternative Pathways teacher.
  4. Teaching and/or Administration experience (minimum 5 years preferred).
  5. Strong public relations and positive, collaborative demeanor, alongside a robust work ethic and willingness to contribute to the general welfare of the total school programme.
  6. Advanced qualifications are preferred but not essential.
  7. A strong understanding of the IB framework and Approaches to Teaching is preferred.
  8. A strong desire to continually improve their practice and deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences for their students.
  9. The experience, personality and educational philosophy that aligns with a leading IB World School like GEMS World Academy.
