Description

Job Summary:

The Quality Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and improving the laboratory's quality management system in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards. The role involves ensuring that all procedures, processes, and documentation meet the stringent requirements set forth by the standard, facilitating continuous improvement, and overseeing the laboratory's quality assurance and control activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Management System (QMS) Implementation:
    1. Develop and implement the laboratory's QMS in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
    2. Ensure all personnel understand and follow the QMS procedures.
  2. Document Control:
    1. Create, review, and update quality management documents, including quality manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and forms.
    2. Maintain proper documentation and records as required by the standard.
  3. Internal Audits:
    1. Plan, conduct, and report on internal audits to ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
    2. Identify non-conformances and areas for improvement, and follow up on corrective actions.
  4. Non-Conformance and Corrective Actions:
    1. Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    2. Monitor the effectiveness of corrective actions taken.
  5. Training and Competency:
    1. Develop and implement training programs to ensure all staff are competent and aware of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
    2. Maintain records of training and competency evaluations.
  6. Quality Control:
    1. Oversee quality control activities, including proficiency testing, inter-laboratory comparisons, and quality assurance of test results.
    2. Analyze QC data to identify trends and potential issues.
  7. Management Reviews:
    1. Organize and participate in management reviews of the QMS.
    2. Prepare and present quality performance reports to top management.
  8. Customer Complaints:
    1. Handle customer complaints related to quality issues, conduct investigations, and implement corrective actions.
    2. Maintain records of complaints and resolutions.
  9. Regulatory Compliance:
    1. Stay updated with relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines related to ISO/IEC 17025.
    2. Ensure the laboratory meets all legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory, with at least 2 years in a quality role.
  3. Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 standards and requirements. Familiarity with other relevant standards (e.g., ISO 9001) is an advantage.
  4. Skills: Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Proficiency in quality management software and tools.
  5. Certifications: Certification in quality management (e.g., Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Engineer) is desirable.

Working Conditions:

Primarily office-based with some time spent in the laboratory. May require occasional travel to attend training, audits, or industry conferences.

Reporting Structure:

Reports to the Laboratory Manager or Quality Manager. May supervise a team of quality control technicians or auditors.

By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Quality Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and reliability of the laboratory's testing and calibration results, ensuring customer satisfaction, and achieving compliance with ISO/IEC 17025.
